We changed the stain colour of these timbers to provide some contrast in this Whiteshell interior. That meant reaching high into the rafters, and stripping the existing clear coat. We applied a dark gel stain and glossy clear coat to complete the look.
Clear-coated pine yellows as it ages. This creates a warm and homey look, synonymous with cottage life. But it’s not always the right look. In new construction, we can take measures to prevent yellowing. In existing cabins, a change of stain colour is always an option.
